Pattern Design at Mass Art

I took a pattern design class at Mass Art this semester to understand fabric better. It was very useful.

Here's my final project.





The wire forming the bottom part of the skirt definitely need to be stiffer, but the only other wire I had that was suitable was way too stiff and thick to work comfortably with the fabric.



At the very end of the project the piece managed to discover a pen in my office. I could either patch it or go with it -- I went with it.

Photoshop Blend Modes

I just started The Hidden Power of Blend Modes in Adobe Photoshop by Scott Valentine.

One of his first suggestions was to just duplicate your base layer and try different blend modes to see the results.

I found the results fascinating and thought I'd share.

I'm still enamored with the multiple filter thing.

This is with a three different shots of the same scene.

Masking Tiffen Filters

After watching a few of their webcasts I was finally motivated to learn how to use the masking mechanism for the Tiffen filters.

It takes a few minutes of futzing to get them right: sometimes the masks need to be generated, sometimes their just there, and for the path mask, the path has to be closed for it to appear.

Once you're past that (again a few minutes, not a much longer than that -- but they're certainly not immediately intuitive) you're in possession of a quick, easy to use masking system that makes a tremendous difference.
