Phenomenal at MCASD

I just got back from seeing the Phenomenal Show at the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego -- very impressive. I had seen photos and read about the influence of looking out over the Pacific horizon, but nothing captured what it was like to see the works in person.

The pieces were all fairly dynamic, either from the way they were constructed, e.g., the Mary Corse piece in this video

or others which changed substantially as as you walked by. For example, in this piece by Robert Irwin

the "blending point" (where the band blended with the background) changed as you walked around it.

Very difficult pieces to photograph. I recommend the Art in America article and associated slideshow:

"VLY" traffic control box on North Harvard

Some really nice work by VLY, much better than any of the other boxes I'm familiar with in Allston/Brighton.
